Thomas Cook cleared of holiday deaths

Thomas Cook has been cleared of fault in relation to the holiday deaths of two West Yorkshire children from carbon monoxide poisoning - and won damages from the Greek hotel where the tragedy happened.

Christianne Shepherd, seven, and her six-year-old brother, Robert from Horbury, died as they slept in a Corfu hotel room. A gas boiler used to provide hot tap water to their room at the Louis Corcyra Beach Hotel had malfunctioned, pumping the deadly gas into their room in October 2006.

The hotel owner has already agreed to pay substantial damages to the children's family and has now been ordered to pay at least £1 million to two members of the Thomas Cook group to cover costs and losses.
