Combating Measles in West Yorkshire
Children at secondary schools in West Yorkshire who have not been vaccinated against Measles, Mumps and Rubella are being targeted this month as part of a new campaign. It follows a rise in cases of Measles around the UK.
It's estimated 6,000 children are not protected in West Yorkshire. Measles, mumps and rubella are highly infectious, common conditions that can have serious, potentially fatal, complications, including meningitis, swelling of the brain and deafness.
They can also lead to complications in pregnancy that affect the unborn baby and can lead to miscarriage. So far this year West Yorkshire has seen 15 reported cases.
