Man charged over damage to Constable painting
A man has been charged with criminal damage after Constable's masterpiece The Hay Wain was attacked by a protester at London's National Gallery, Scotland Yard has said.
Paul Douglas Manning, 57, of Kirkstone Road in Sheffield was remanded on bail and will next appear at Southwark Crown Court on July 12.
A photograph was stuck to the 1821 painting at the gallery in Trafalgar Square on Friday but did no lasting damage to the work of art, according to a gallery spokesperson.
