106 squadron reunited at RAF Metheringham
Veterans of the 106 squadron, who carried out thousands of night time raids during the Second World war, will attend a reunion later at the Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre, near Lincoln, where they used to be based.
The highlight will be a flypast by a Battle of Britain Lancaster bomber from nearby RAF Coningsby.
The veterans will also present an engraved bench to the visitors centre. The rest of the afternoon will be spent at what was known as RAF Metheringham.
The squadron lost 59 Lancaster bombers by the end of the war in 1945 and in total flew 5,834 sorties with the loss of over 1,000 airmen.
One of the 106 Squadron's commanding officer went on to become the leader of the Dambusters Squadron based at RAF Scampton.
