The mother of Megan Roberts, the York student who died when she fell into the river after a night out, is calling for new measures to be put in place to prevent further tragedies in the city.

Jackie Roberts, from Wetherby, faced an agonising five week wait after Megan's disappearance before her body was found in the River Ouse.

Next week authorities will meet to discuss river safety in light of the tragedy. It comes as the search continues for 22 year old Ben Clarkson, who also disappeared in York this month.

Speaking publicly about Megan's death for the first time, Mrs Roberts told Christine Talbot about the devastating loss her family had suffered:
