Drivers spend more than 80 hours in jams

Drivers on roads in Leeds and Bradford spend more than 80 hours a year stuck in traffic jams. The area is said to have the fastest-growing congestion problem in Europe, according to a survey today by the satellite navigation firm TomTom.

It says that journey times can be increased by more than 50 per cent during the morning rush hour. Even Londoners have it easier, with drivers in the capital spending 74 hours a year in jams.

Traffic in Leeds and Bradford is worse than London, Nottingham, Manchester and Birmingham ...and anywhere else in the country, according to research by TomTom. Average journey times are '27% longer than when traffic in the city is flowing freely and 52% longer during morning rush hour.

The Leeds and Bradford area also has the fastest growing congestion problem in Europe with an increase in congestion of 10% followed by Birmingham and Luxembourg whereas Bern, Rome and Milan have seen the largest decrease in the levels of congestion.
