Scientists in Leeds develop robot that can repair potholes
Scientists in Leeds have developed a drone that they hope can automatically repair potholes on roads across the country.
The team from the University of Leeds has built a prototype in the hope robots can help to maintain our highways by 2050.
The machines use 3D printing technology to measure potholes before depositing material in them to fill them in.
Last year nearly 190,000 potholes were repaired in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire but it is estimated that repairing all the region's roads would cost almost £1billion.
The technology has been developed by Dr Bilal Kaddouh and researchers from the Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering department at the University of Leeds. For more information click here.
