Shops in North Lincolnshire could get extra money to refurbish their fronts under a new council scheme.

They will be able to apply for up to 50% of the cost of converting their shop front to something more traditional – though this is limited up to £7,500.

This is part of ‘The Traditional Shop Front Grant Scheme’ and will include any shop or commercial property in Brigg, Normanby, Barton-upon- Humber and other locations.

This is after the success of the ‘Viable and Vibrant’ places fund that aimed to make businesses in Scunthorpe look more ‘aesthetically pleasing.’

So far North Lincolnshire Council have given out more than £115,000 to 14 properties – and these properties will have until 31 March 2018 to finish their refurbishments.

Councillor Rob Waltham, the leader of the council, says:

Most recently, the council has awarded funds to a new café and wine bar in Crowle, as part of the scheme – it will be on the site of the former funeral directors on the High Street, which has stood empty for more than a year.

The work is due to be completed in August 2017, with the grand opening expected around September 2017.

Funds are still available for other businesses to sign up.
