A giant image of Star Wars characters has been carved into 15 acres of fields at York Maze to mark 40 years of the sci-fi franchise.

Farmer and Star Wars fan Tom Pearcy is behind the image, which features Darth Vader, Han Solo, C-3PO and Chewbacca as well as the Death Star.

Fans of the films have been invited to attend the unveiling of the image in costume over the coming days.

York Maze's tribute is believed to be the biggest piece of Star Wars fan art ever created, and it doubles as a maze for visitors to get lost in.

The maze is open from Saturday until September 4.
