Election 2017: The Morley and Outwood candidates looking for your vote

  • By Neil Dawson, Labour candidate

I have worked as a Labour party volunteer and in the community all my adult life to try to improve life for ordinary people. I do it because I think everyone deserves a chance.

But it is one thing to believe in fairness and equality and another to do something about it.

I get involved: I am both a Leeds City Councillor and a Morley Town Councillor. I am a school governor and have been for over 30 years. I am a member of the Morley Town Centre Management Board and of Morley and Ardsley School Clusters. I also help a friends group to improve alocal park.

I have a good record of delivering and I constantly get those small but important things fixed: potholes, faulty street lights and boundaries around public areas. I know that these things all affect our quality of life.

All this experience, combined with my belief in fairness for everyone, means I will be the best MP for Morley and Outwood.

If I’m elected, I won’t be a long-distance MP communicating through social media, you will see me around.

I am a General Practitioner in Barton upon Humber and the Medical Advisor to the East Riding of Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

After leaving comprehensive school I studied Medicine in Glasgow and am married with four children.

I have a keen interest in history. I have sat on the National Institute ofClinical Excellence ovarian cancer guideline development group and Medical Technologies Appraisal committee.

I have been a card carrying Liberal Democrat for several years and feel passionately about the need for electoral system reform to help re-engagement between voters and politicians.

Now that we face Brexit I want to ensure that we keep as many useful ties to Europe as practical. I support the Green agenda having solar electric and solar thermal power generation installed at the family home.

I am a keen supporter of public transport and I would act to ensure that rail and bus services are improved and maintained.

I believe that you should vote for me as a Liberal Democrat for a sensible approach to Brexit and to preserve the NHS.

I would like to thank the people of Morley and Outwood for putting their faith and trust in me over the last two years.

Brexit will happen, but how that departure will look now depends on you. So vote for me and the Conservative Party on the 8th June if you want to see a strong Britain and a secure economy. If re-elected I will continue to:

Hold our local council to account: For years our Labour run councils have been complacent, they need to change and listen to people’s concerns

Fight for sustainable housing: I want to see sustainable developments, but not at the expense of our Green Field sites

Fight for better transport and roads locally: We need improvements to get people to work, get children to school, and to allow us to visit our loved ones

Work to improve the NHS both locally and nationally: I want to see our health service be the best in the world

Work to deliver a secure and successful Brexit.
