People queue in Leeds for new £1 coin
People queued to get their hands on the new £1 coin in Leeds today.
Two central branches, run by Yorkshire Bank and Natwest, were part of 14 selected across the country to put the 12-sided coins into circulation.
The new coins come with increased security features which makes it difficult for them to be forged.
The public is being urged to use or bank their old round £1 coins before 15 October, by which date they will cease to become legal tender.
