A man has been sentenced to 14 weeks in prison in Lincolnshire's first successful prosecution of controlling or coercive behaviour.

Shane Batey, 20, from Boston, subjected his partner to five months of abusive behaviour where she was insulted, repeatedly spat at, and made to sleep on the floor.

Batey admitted the charge of controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship between 28 December 2015 and 25 May 2016. He was sentenced yesterday under section 76 of the Serious Crime Act 2015.

Sarah Norburn, Domestic Abuse Co-ordinator at Lincolnshire Police, welcomed the outcome, saying:

Any individual suffering domestic violence and abuse is encouraged to report it to the police, or another agency or trusted professional.

There are also specialist domestic abuse support services available across the county and their details are available on the force website here or on the county’s partnership website at this link.
