York hotel becomes first in country to offer divorce weekends

A hotel in York has become the first in the country offering couples a weekend stay that ends in divorce.

The unnamed hotel was the venue for a company which has introduced the concept in Europe and the United States.

It claims to offer expert guidance to couples who want to end their marriages amicably and quickly.

Lawyers have warned the process could leave some partners vulnerable, but the company says those taking part are carefully vetted before they check in .

Jim Halfens from Divorce Hotel International said: They started their marriage together and they will end it together. Like adults, sitting with each other at a table, looking each other in the eyes."
