These pictures show the incredible moment a cat faced its fear of water by taking a plunge in a reservoir - to chase a bird.

The snaps, taken by 69-year-old photographer Geoff Eagle, show the soggy moggy swimming alongside a gaggle of geese and swans before being dragged out of the reservoir by park rangers.

Geoff captured the feline's exploits in the water at Thrybergh Country Park in Rotherham.

He was out walking with a friend, watching the birds, when a flock of 100 or so pigeons, around 20 swans, 20 Canada geese and an assortment of ducks took to the air and the water. The cat jumped in after them.

The granddad-of-five said he was 'amazed' at what he was seeing.

The rangers then took to the water in a lime green rowing boat and managed to drag the cat out of the reservoir.
