The Barnsley fan, who attended The Reds' 1-0 defeat to Fleetwood Town, is said to have woken up around 10:30pm.
As he left the toilet and walked into the dark concourse, the alarms were set off which alerted emergency services.
He made his way pitch side before climbing onto the structure in Oakwell Stadium, South Yorkshire.
