Rovers takeover expected to conclude next week
The proposed takeover of Doncaster Rovers by One Direction's Louis Tomlinson and the club's former chairman John Ryan is expected to be concluded by next Wednesday
There were hopes that the deal would be concluded by this evening.
ITV Calendar understands that the current board have agreed to sell, but a last minute intervention by Louis' management team has led to what is hoped will just be a brief delay. Doncaster-born Louis is a lifelong Rovers fan, and played for the reserves earlier this year.
Up until now One Direction's management have not been involved in the negotiations but want assurances over any conflict surrounding the band's image rights, along with assurances about how much time Louis will spend on Rovers' business, and how that might affect the dynamic of the band.
But I stress, it's virtually a done deal. I've spoken to John Ryan, and he says by the middle of next week contracts will be exchanged.
However, the deal is considered as good as done, leaving the formalities of contract exchanges left to be concluded on Wednesday.
