Bronte Society buys rare essay for 50 thousand pounds

The Brontë Society is celebrating after acquiring a previously unpublished homework essay written by Charlotte Brontë during her time in Brussels.

It is marked by Constantin Heger, the married teacher she was deeply in love with.

The society bought the item - which was previously unknown until Decemeber 2012 - for 50 thousand pounds.

Expert analysis of the handwriting confirmed its author was Charlotte Brontë.

The document, written on both sides, is composed in French and written on a topic assigned to Charlotte Brontë by Constantin Heger as part of her French lessons.
