Cadeby Colliery disaster miners' memorial
Two underground explosions claimed the lives of the men. The first blast killed 35 miners, the rest of the victims died trying to reach the others who had been injured.
The mine, in Doncaster, was situated under the shadow of Connisborough Castle, where only two days before the accident the King and Queen had tea.
The Cadeby Main Colliery group was formed to raise funds to remember the victims of the disaster. A parade has been held from the site of the pit through the streets of Denaby Main to the Cemetery where an open air service and memorial took place.
