18-year-old woman dies in Scottish Borders road collision

An 18-year-old woman has died following a road collision in the Scottish Borders.

The woman sustained the fatal injuries when her Hyundai Getz was involved in a collision with a Suzuki Ignis on the A68, just south of Newtown St Boswells.

The 71-year-old female driver of the Ignis also sustained serious injuries and is currently in a serious condition within hospital.

Her passenger, a 78-year-old man, is currently being treated for a chest injury. However, his injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time.

Police in the Scottish Borders are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which happened around 8pm yesterday:

Tragically this collision has resulted in the death of a young woman and the driver of the other vehicle remains in a very serious condition in hospital.

We are continuing with our investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision and would urge any motorists who were on the A68 at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday 13th April to contact us immediately if they witnessed the incident.
