Winter storms: travel and schools updates

Storms Desmond, Eva and Frank brought chaos to Cumbria and the south of Scotland, leading to heavy flooding and mass road closures.

Since then, many roads have also been affected by snow and ice.

Wednesday Update: Road Closures

You can find a full list of road closures here, but here are the main routes throughout Cumbria which remain closed:

  • A686 Langwathby, Great Salkeld. Approach to Langwathby bridge Road, Surface Damaged.
  • C3079 Daleholme lane, Kirkby Stephen. Carriageway failure.
  • C5074 Stainton Mill House, Stainton Hall. Subsidence.
  • C5079 South of Killington, Beck House junction. Damaged culvert and landslip.
  • C5100 / U5422 Howgill Lane - Sedbergh - Carlinggill - Howgill. Damaged c/way and culvert subsidence.
  • Low Underbrow. 60m length. Gurnal Bridge Lane. Landslip
  • A591 From U7003, extending in a northerly and southerly direction for 6.8km. From St Johns in the Vale junction to Dunmail Raise. Land slip and flooding.
  • B5322 A591 (Legburthwaite) A66 Threlkeld St Johns in the Vale. Flooding.
  • C2016 Camerton to Great Broughton. Flooding / landslip.
  • C2027 From a point 50m either side of the centre line of the bridge. Southwaite Mill Bridge, Lorton Flooding + road damage.
  • C2058 U2218 near Portinscale for a distance of 5km near Grange Portinscale to Grange. Flooding and landslide
  • C2058 Keskadale. From a point 30m north of the property known as Keskadale Farm for a distance of 50m
