£360,000 Cannabis plant farm found above the former Ali Baba convenience store in Selkirk

A cannabis farm with drugs estimated to the value of £360,000 has been discovered in a property above a vacant shop in the Borders town of Selkirk.

Officers swooped on the flat above the former Ali Baba convenience store in Curror Street on Monday morning when around 500 plants were discovered.

Various pieces of growing equipment were also recovered.

A forensic search of the property with officers dressed in white suits has been ongoing for the past two days.

A 23-year-old man was arrested and charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Proceedings at Selkirk Sheriff Court were interrupted on Monday morning to gain a search warrant for the property which is 100 yards away from Knowepark Primary School in the same street.

A Police Scotland spokesman said:

Officers in Selkirk carried out a search of a property in Curror Street on Monday, October 26 as part of Operation Borah – an ongoing campaign to tackle cannabis cultivations within the Lothians and Scottish Borders. A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
