A595 roadworks announced

Drivers can expect delays along the A595 south of Workington from next week, as flood defence work gets underway.

The project, costing £480,000, will last six weeks, and there will be off-peak lane closures and temporary traffic lights.

The aim is to improve verge drainage and footpaths along the route between the junction with the A66 at Bridgefoot and further south at Winscales.

Poorly-performing filter drains will be replaced with new drains, and footpaths will be reconstructed.

The work will start on Monday (7 September) and is due to be completed by Friday 16 October.

What to expect:

  • Off-peak lane closures with temporary traffic lights in place between 9.30am and 3.30pm and again between 8pm and 6am

This is important work to give road users safer and smoother journeys along a section of the A595 which has been prone to flooding after heavy rain.

The footpaths here are also in a poor condition so we are taking the opportunity to renew these which will provide a better surface for pedestrians.”
