Workers to walkout on Carlisle Settle rail line

This is the third time workers will strike over compulsory redundancies Credit: PA

Staff on the historic Settle/Carlisle rail line are to strike again on Thursday as part of an on-going dispute over compulsory redundancies.

The staff are employed by the Settle and Carlisle Railway Development Company to provide at-seat catering on Northern Rail services between Carlisle and Settle.

The action follows two 24 hour strikes, one in December and one earlier this month.

“The last thing we expected on the historic Settle/Carlisle rail line was a compulsory redundancy situation - it seems the companies actions are at odds with their stated objectives leading them into a regrettable and wholly avoidable dispute with Britain's biggest rail union."
