Residents in the small village of Carsethorn near Dumfries say this afternoon's flooding is the worst they have seen in 25 years.
The huge tidal surge meant that the villagers had to move their cars from the front gardens as the water level continued to rise.
Many gardens have been damaged with fences and decking pulled into the water, and even a summer house was seen floating up the Solway.
Mark Hennesssy has lived in the village for just over a year and says the waves were about 16 feet above sea level.
One home has been flooded in the village but nobody has been injured.
