A young circuit-racing driver from Thornhill in Dumfriesshire has been selected to join an elite driving club.

Ross Wylie has been chosen by the British Racing Drivers' Club for enrolment in the Rising Star initiative.

The programme supports a number of young drivers who are aiming for a professional career within the sport.

The 21-year-old is currently competing in the German-based Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup, where he is lying fifth overall with two rounds to go.

Ross Wylie said:

“The renowned BRDC Club must have been monitoring my race performances this year and has duly recognised me as one of the most promising up and coming talents of my generation.

“I am honoured to be selected and it means so much to me to be apart of such a famous club – one that helped to put ex-Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton on track to success."
