The Conservative MP for Carlisle, John Stevenson, has become the latest government backbencher to express doubts over government proposals which could see different levels of pay for public sector workers, depending on which part of the country they live and work in.

The Chancellor has asked the Independent Pay Review Bodies to look at the impact of public sector pay on local job markets. Earlier this week , the Conservative MP for Hexham Guy Opperman spoke out aaginst any move towards regional pay rates, a sentiment now echoed by his Carlisle colleague.
