A report on children's mental health services in Cumbria has found the system is too confusing for young people and their parents to work out who to see. It also found waiting times were often too long and not enough money is being spent on children's mental health services.

'We need to build emotional resilience from childhood'

The pressures faced by young people in South Lakeland have been set out in a major report on Mental Health Services for Children.

The study was commissioned by the MP Tim Farron, and took eight months to complete.

The report found that systems for helping young people were often too confusing, and it makes a number of recommendations.

It was put together by health professionals, with a little help from a teenager who carried out her own research at school.

Mental health services for children 'too confusing'

A new report on Mental Health services for Children in Cumbria has found that the current systems are too confusing for young people and their parents.

The hard-hitting report tackles the difficult issue of suicide, and estimates that around 25,000 people could be affected by such a tragedy in the next ten years.

We'll be looking at the report's recommendations in tomorrow's Lookaround, but first, Fiona Marley Paterson has been speaking to one man with personal experience of the effects of mental illness.

It's a report that was ordered by Lake District MP Tim Farron after he received a number of complaints about the existing services.
