Police arrest man in connection with armed robbery

A man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Wigton.

Armed police and the National Police Air Service stopped a blue Vauxhall Corsa on the A596 between Prospect and Aspatria.

Police say the road will remain closed for the next two hours.

A woman was threatened with a firearm but was not harmed during the incident on George Street.

Police are also investigating a separate incident of an attempted robbery at Kirkbride Post Office near Wigton but can't yet say if the incidents are linked

Police search for man involved in armed robbery

Police in Wigton are currently searching for a man who is believed to have been involved in an armed robbery.

A woman was threatened with a firearm on George Street but was not harmed.

Armed police officers were sent to the scene and a search is underway for the man and his vehicle, a dark blue Vauxhall Corsa, registration H20 DXX.

It is believed he left the area via the High Street.

The man is described as:

  • 5ft 6” tall
  • of a thin build
  • between 18 to 20 years old
  • wearing grey tracksuit bottoms, waterproof jacket with blue trim and a blue hat.

Police are asking the public to contact Cumbria Police immediately on 101 if they see the car.
