Dangerous driver jailed for 10 months
A dangerous driver who outran police during a dinnertime pursuit in Carlisle has been jailed.
Andrew Murphy, 24, reached an estimated 50mph on a residential city road just before 1pm in January 4.
An officer giving chase with lights and sirens activated watched as Murphy forced a van driver to brake suddenly and drove on the wrong side of the street before mounting a pavement and continuing along grassland.
His Honda Civic was seen "bouncing" on uneven ground and travelled close to a fenced-off children's play area.
Police eventually aborted the pursuit after concluding it was too dangerous to continue.
Nobody was injured, and Murphy, of Whernside, Carlisle, was arrested the following day.
He later admitted dangerous driving, disqualified driving, no insurance and cannabis possession, and was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court.
Judge Barbara Forrester heard Murphy was jailed in 2015 for causing a head-on smash during a police chase which left a pensioner injured.
The judge was also told his mother had branded him a "complete idiot" having broken the law again.
He was jailed for 10 months, and must serve a two-year driving ban when released from prison.
