Bomb disposal team called to Workington Police Station

A bomb disposal team has carried out a controlled explosion outside Workington Police Station.

Police were alerted to an unoccupied silver Vauxhall car at Hall Brow at around 3:30am this morning, which is described as "suspicious".

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called, and they carried out a controlled explosion on the car shortly after 8am.

The vehicle was then searched, and no issues of concern were found.

The A596 has been reopened and police have thanked the public for their patience.
