Consultant writes to PM over 'false' maternity information

A consultant at the West Cumberland Hospital has written to the Prime Minister to express her fury about "false information" regarding maternity services in west Cumbria.

Andrene Hamilton, an Obstetrics & Gynaecology consultant, has sent a letter - which has been seen by ITV Border's Katie Hunter - to Theresa May.

In it, she is highly critical of the Success Regime - the organisation charged with improving healthcare in Cumbria - and the North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the West Cumberland Hospital and the Cumberland Infirmary.

She claims all obstetricians at West Cumberland Hospital are against proposals to downgrade maternity services at the hospital, and blames the Trust for the problems recruiting and retaining consultants.
