The Eamont Bridge in Penrith will remain closed after divers confirm damage to the structure.

Divers inspected the bridge, confirming that there is now a 1 metre deep void behind the washed away masonry. This means that the load-bearing archway of the bridge is unsupported at one end.

The A6 over Eamont Bridge has been closed since 9 December 2015 after the floods of Storm Desmond.

The bridge can repaired and plans are being finalised for temporary repairs to get the bridge reopened. A plan for a permanent repair will then be developed.
