The Scottish Health Secretary has denied accusations that finances for a new hospital for south west Scotland were in chaos.

The office for national statistics is investigating the way the new £200m hospital is being financed.

It's also claimed it will cost more than what was expected.

The purpose of Robison's visit to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary today was to talk about winter provision but instead she was fending off some accusations of overspending.

The new hospital at Cargenbridge on the outskirts of Dumfries was budgeted to cost £200m but if current spending continues, the overall cost is predicted to be much higher.

These claims were denied by Shona Robison, who added,

The minister did applaud the work of Accident and Emergency staff and pledged that plans were in place such as weekend discharging to avoid the strain on the hospital during the winter months.

But her message is at risk of being overshadowed by concerns over the certainty of future projects.
