Your MP elect: Richard Arkless

Richard Arkless has been elected SNP MP for the Dumfries and Galloway constituency.

The seat had been held by Labour MP Russell Brown since it was formed, in 2005, but this year the SNP have won it.

He was born in Stranraer in 1975, and raised in East London,before returning to Stranraer when he was eight.

He studied BA (Hons) Financial Services at Glasgow Caledonian University, and then studied law at Strathclyde University and Glasgow Graduate School of Law.

After a lengthy legal career, he moved back to Stranraer and he set up his own online business.

He lives there now with his wife, and two children, and his interests include politics, economics and constitutional affairs.
