The listed building has already undergone an extensive refit and has been removed from English Heritage's buildings at risk register.

Now work to reinstate original features and preserve the building's long term future have been agreed by Tendring District Council.

The Electric Palace is Grade II listed and sits within the Harwich's Conservation Area.

"The impact of the proposed scheme will be relatively minor but very beneficial and will assist the long term preservation of the building which is an asset to Harwich. It will prevent further deterioration of the fabric of the cinema and will improve comfort in line with modern user expectation. Importantly the auditorium ceiling will be stabilised and secured to prevent any possibility of collapse. The work is of appropriate design which will enhance both the building and the Conservation Area."
