New Conservative MEP appointed for East of England

The East of England has a new Conservative Euro MP after the previous one was elected to the House of Commons as MP for Chelmsford.

Businessman John Flack has taken his seat at the European Parliament which sits in Strasbourg and Brussels.

Vicky Ford won in Chelmsford in the General Election and can't sit in both parliaments so had to stand down as an MEP. That means the next Conservative candidate on the party list at the last European election in 2013 is appointed as a replacement.

John Flack has been appointed the new Conservative MEP for the East of England.

“I was born and bred in the region and my family can be traced back here for 14 generations as farmers on the Essex/Cambridgeshire border. It really is a privilege to represent my home region which I know so well.”

“This is a crucial time for the East of England as we try to make the most the opportunities that leaving the European Union presents us. As an MEP I will work towards achieving the best deal for the region.”

The East of England is represented by two other Conservative MEPs in the European Parliament; Geoffrey Van Orden and David Campbell Bannerman.
