Trains cancelled after illness strikes rail crew

Nearly 30 trains in the East have had to be cancelled in the past two days due to staff illness.

The trains were due to leave Cambridge, Norwich, Lowestoft, Chelmsford and Ipswich. Abellio Greater Anglia has apologised and said each of the 19 cancellations listed today was down to the fact members of staff were not available for work.

We would like to apologise for the cancellation of some train services today, which has been caused by a higher instance of short-term sickness among our train crew. We are doing all we can to minimise the effect to journeys and to provide alternative transport and additional stops on other services wherever possible. We're sorry for any inconvenience caused."

– A spokesperson for Abellio Greater Anglia

Any customers with any pre-booked tickets for the cancelled trains will be able to travel on an alternative service today.

Ten services were advertised as cancelled yesterday.
