Police searches have been taking place in Harlow as officers hunt for a murder weapon used in an attack on a man at the weekend.
Police say a post mortem investigation has revealed a man who died in Harlow yesterday was killed by a single stab wound to the chest.
The victim, believed to be a 48-year-old man from the town, was attacked close to Holly Field on a pathway that leads from Southern Way to Pyenest Road.
"The cause of death has been established but we are still searching for the murder weapon which is thought to be a large knife. It is quite possible this has been discarded nearby and I would ask people to check their bins, gardens, outbuildings for any knives that have been left and I would also ask members of the public out and about in Harlow to report any such finds to us."
Police also want to get hold of CCTV from any buildings overlooking Pyenest Road, Holly Field, Abercrombie Way and Southern Way.
The cordon at the murder scene remains in place and specialist search teams are carrying out a finger-tip examination along the pathway and surrounding area including the nearby playing fields.
Officers will stay at the scene for some time, to reassure people in the area.
Anyone with information should ring Harlow Major Incident Team on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. It offers rewards of up to £1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of offenders.
