Norfolk and Norwich Hospital declares internal major incident

The Norfolk and Norwich Hospital has declared an internal major incident this afternoon as it tries to get on top of high patient numbers.

It comes as a Labour parliamentary candidate today claimed there were 13 ambulances waiting with patients outside the accident and emergency department as she spent the day with an ambulance crew.

Denise Burke, will stand in the North Norfolk constituency, Tweeted that it took 50 minutes to offload one patient because there wasn't space in A and E.

The hospital disputed the figures while the ambulance service - which admitted delays were an issue across the region - said it was not aware of major problems affecting patients today.
