Plans unveiled for £10 million upgrade to North Cambridge Academy
Plans for a £10 million transformation of the North Cambridge Academy buildings have been submitted to Cambridge City Council.
If approved, the current buildings will be transformed and will help to cater for an increase in demand for secondary school places.
The buildings would be built alongside the existing school, allowing the academy to stay open.
The academy would then transfer into its new buildings ready for the new school year in 2015.
North Cambridge Academy was identified as being one of 261 schools across the country that will benefit from the Government funded "Priority School Building Programme", to provide new fit for purpose school buildings.
Principal Martin Campbell said. "The academy has already seen a number of dramatic improvements since opening in September 2013. This new building would see the academy site, and the area transformed into a state-of-the-art facility that is at the heart of the local community."
Cambridge MP Julian Huppert said." This project will not only bring huge benefits to existing pupils and staff but also provide extra places which are so badly needed in north Cambridge."
