A memorial service has been held in Norwich for a Norfolk nurse who helped saved hundreds of soldiers' lives during the First World War.

Veterans gathered at Norwich Cathedral to remember Edith Cavell. Born in Swardeston, she worked in Belgium during the conflict and helped hundreds of allied soldiers escape to safety.

Edith was executed by a German firing squad in 1915.

A service of remembrance for a World War One heroine has been taking place in Norwich today.

The service is in memory of Edith Cavell who was shot by the Germans during the First World War.

A festival is also taking place in her home village of Swardeston in Norfolk to commemorate her life.

There'll be a special memorial service at the grave of Norfolk nurse Edith Cavell at Norwich Cathedral tomorrow.

She's the nurse who helped over 200 Allied soldiers escape from German-occupied Belgium during the First World War.

Tomorrow marks the 98th anniversary of her being shot by firing squad.

A festival celebrating the life of the wartime heroine Edith Cavell is being held in Norfolk this weekend.

She worked as a nurse in the First World War and saved the lives of soldiers from both sides.

The festival will be held in her home village of Swardeston near Norwich
