Rail crossing safety review

Campaigners calling for improvements to a level crossing in Cambridgeshire have been told Network Rail will look into ways to improve its long term safety. Foxton Crossing near Cambridge has seen several safety breaches in the past few months.

Now Network Rail says it will pay for a study to look at possible long-term solutions, which may include a pedestrian bridge or even closing the crossing altogether.

"Yesterday's meeting was very constructive. There is a consensus that something needs to be done to address the issues that have been raised and Network Rail has agreed to fund a feasibility study to look at long-term options for the crossing.

We also reiterated our commitment to deliver improvements at the crossing and work to install a new locking mechanism on the pedestrian gates will be completed by the end of July."
