Farmers help firefighters tackle lorry blaze on A14 in Cambridgeshire

The A14 in Cambridgeshire has seen major disruption today (Thursday July 11) after a lorry carrying bales of straw caught fire.

Firefighters had to call on the aid of nearby farmers who brought their machinery to the scene to help break up the load and stop it burning.

These pictures from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service show the burned-out cab of the lorry on the westbound carriageway near Alconbury.

It closed the road between Alconbury and Spittals and caused queues all the way back to Fenstanton.

Fire crews were set to spend all morning trying to clear it and urged drivers to avoid the area.
