Matt Hancock: West Suffolk MP starts as Health Secretary
West Suffolk MP Matt Hancock said he is looking forward to starting his new role as Health Secretary after being appointed to the role yesterday (July 9).
Mr Hancock replaces Jeremy Hunt who has taken over as Foreign Secretary following the resignation of Boris Johnson on Monday afternoon.
Mr Hancock was promoted to the cabinet as the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport in a reshuffle in January.
He has been the West Suffolk MP for eight years.
Mr Hancock's position as Culture Secretary has been filled by Attorney General Jeremy Wright.
Following his appointment, Mr Hancock took to Twitter to say that he was "really looking forward" to getting started in his new role.
Former Chancellor George Osborne was among those to congratulate Mr Hancock on his promotion, writing on social media that he was "very proud."
His predecessor Jeremy Hunt praised Mr Hancock's engagement with technology- he launched his own app earlier this year.
