John Bacon, Anglia Television's longest serving newsreader, has died at the age of 83.

He joined Anglia Television as a station announcer from the BBC in 1964 and was a newscaster for more than a quarter of a century.

He read the news on About Anglia until he retired in 1991 apart from a short period in the 1970s.

John Bacon's slicked back silver hair and impeccable delivery marked him as one the personalities that viewers most associated with the news on Anglia.

Despite the inevitable cracks about his name, he also bought a pig farm.

He was once reading the news on Anglia in the late 1960s when a half-naked dancer, who was to be appearing later in the programme, appeared behind him at the newsdesk.

John Bacon died suddenly at his home in Greece. He leaves a wife Marina and children Sally and James.
