The California Inn had been used as meeting place for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in Luton for decades but when the California Inn was put up for sale it's future looked uncertain.

Tina Haynes, a local transgender woman, saw its potential, gave it a makeover and reopened it as a cabaret bar and meeting place for the LGBT community.
