An aerial picture released by the fire service shows the devastation caused by a fire on an industrial estate at Clophill in Bedfordshire.

Three warehouses have been consumed by the blaze, which broke out late last night.

At the height of the fire up to 2,000 litres of water were being used to douse the flames and fire crews are still tackling the blaze today.

People living near the site had either left their homes or were evacuated by fire crews to a safe distance. Firefighters successfully fought to protect these homes from the blaze and vehicles on the site were removed onto the A6 to get them clear of the flames.

Firefighters had to work to stop the fire spreading to a petrol station on the site.

The severe heat has buckled the steel structure of the warehouses causing a risk of potential collapse, so crews are having to fight the fire using aerial platforms.

To supply the amount of water needed to fight the fire four water carriers have been ferrying 40,000 litres of water to the site.

An investigation's begun into what started the fire. People are being urged to avoid the area.
