Rain, hail, lightning and a funnel cloud - your pictures

Dramatic, slow-moving thunderstorms have hit the East of England on Thursday with many places seeing thunder, lightning, heavy rain, hail and even the odd funnel cloud. John Daley reported 58mm of rain in total over East Ipswich. Meanwhile, Jason Day snapped this Funnel Cloud over Bury St Edmunds. When Funnel Clouds hit the ground, they are called tornados.

Lightning was an additional hazard for many, especially in places on the Norfolk - Suffolk border such as Scole.

Later in the afternoon, the thunderstorms moved into Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, and Milton Keynes. Barry Starling took this picture of heavy rain and hail over Histon, north of Cambridge.
