Peterborough mother given suspended sentence after husky attacks young girl
A mother of three from Peterborough has been given a four-month suspended prison sentence and been banned from keeping dogs after the husky she was looking after attacked a young girl.
Georgia Sigourney who was 12 at the time was left needing 50 stitches after the animal savaged her at Sarah White's home after Georgia had gone there for a sleepover.
Today Sarah White was found guilty of possessing a dog that was dangerously out of control was sentenced for the attack which took place at Mrs Whites home in October 2014.
In court a statement was read from Georgia's father Christopher. In it he said he didn't want Sarah White to go to jail. He said he believed she'd made a mistake and said that going to prison would have too great an impact on her children. The judge said that statement showed great generosity and wisdom.
Mrs White who's a mum of 3 had been looking after the husky for a friend when she left Georgia and her own daughter alone with the dog for a few minutes.
It had no history of aggression.
The court heard she's expressed sorrow at Georgia's injuries but the Sigourney family say her failure to admit guilt or apologise directly has put them through an unnecessary ordeal.
Sentencing Sarah White Judge Sean Enright said he didn't believe she'd shown any genuine remorse. But he had taken into account Christopher Sigourney's request that she shouldn't be jailed.
