Two Luton men jailed for seeking support for Islamic state
A Muslim convert from Luton has been jailed for trying to drum up support for Islamic State outside Topshop in London's Oxford Street.
Ibrahim Anderson, 38, along with Shah Jahan Khan, 62, were among a group which set up a stall near the fashion store on the afternoon ofAugust 9th 2014.
When two passersby - appalled by their comments - challenged their point of view, they were told to 'go and die'. The witnesses took pictures of the two men and reported the matter to police.
The pair, from Luton, Bedfordshire, denied inviting support for a proscribedorganisation and Anderson also denied possessing information likely to be useful to a terrorist.
A jury deliberated for eight hours before finding them guilty at the Old Bailey.
Sentencing today, Judge Stephen Kramer QC jailed Anderson for 3 years and Khan for 2 years. The judge said their activities carried danger that young people may be"lured" to their deaths in Iraq and Syria.
